Longer lorries roll out on UK roads

As part of a drive to improve productivity and reduce carbon emissions, the UK Government recently amended legislation to permit longer lorries on UK roads. The legislation came into force on the 31st of May 2023 and enables vehicles to measure up to 2.05m longer than the previous maximum trailer length of a 16.5m articulated vehicle.

Full details of the UK Government’s proposals are available on GOV.UK.

At Odyssey we have been testing these larger 18.55m length HGV’s on a number of commercial projects recently. If you have a site which requires advice relating to longer length lorries, including swept path analysis, please contact our transport team – Mark Bubb and/ or Richard Harrison.
